The Department of French & Italian at UW-Madison welcomes applications for its MA and PhD Program in French. Graduate students in our department are able to take advantage of the following resources:

The department is also pleased to be able to offer ADVANCED OPPORTUNITY FELLOWSHIPS (AOF) to qualifying minority, economically disadvantaged, and McNair students with a strong background in French and Francophone Studies. AOF fellowships include five years of guaranteed funding in the form of fellowships and teaching assistantships while completing the Ph.D. program in French. Stipends for AOF funding are currently $30,000 for the year (August 2023—August 2024) and include paid tuition & segregated fees, an additional $600 welcome payment, and eligibility for health insurance benefits. Students must be United States citizens or permanent residents to qualify. This funding opportunity was made possible by the College of Letters & Science and the Graduate School of the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
